Wacky, Inspiring x Empowering: Afropunk 2017, Brooklyn NY

Wow! That's what comes to mind when I think about my first experience at Afropunk in Brooklyn, NY.  It is, hands-down, the BEST music event I've ever attended and I've attended quite a few.

The entire event was completely liberating and lit a fire under my activism pot!  The melting pot of people who attended was also a breath of fresh air.  It was a bit crowded which caused some push and shove in some venue areas but I truly enjoyed myself.

Not to my surprise, the event was just as much fashionable as it was musical.  It reminded me of Coachella with more of an African fashion influence.  It was flirty, colorful and pleasing to see progressively fashionable people like myself.

My style has always been different and loud.  I have always tried new styles and would like to think that I've helped set many trends.  However, being from the Midwest, loud style got me picked on and made fun of during my childhood years. Midwest fashion trends tend to be more about labels than style.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good designer bag or shoe, but I never have been and never will be a "label hoe".

I believe that style can be achieved at any level of income which is why I opted for a complete head to toe look (except for my body suit) from Rainbow.  I also wanted to wear something more affordable so that I didn't want to have to worry about where I sat these cheeks!  While I'm not knocking Rainbow (they're quality of clothing is incredible for the price) I definitely wasn't wearing pieces of higher value in the park.

I opted for leopard print leggings (for comfort and ventilation), BullS**t body suit, platform tennis shoes (they were quite comfortable) and a distressed, cold shoulder denim jacket!  I completed my look with some punk bun ponies, cat eye sunnies, and Ruby Woo lips from MAC.

I definitely recommend Afropunk for those who love good food, music and fun fashion!!

As always, be confidently you Curvy Gal.
