Food Fashion X Fun: Brunch in DC

I'd never been to DC and was totally excited to be there.  There are few places in this country that I haven't graced with my presence.  So, needless to say, I couldn't wait to stomp the grounds!!

I'm not who you would consider the average tourist.  I like local spots, hole in the walls, and city gems.  I "live" in the city.  Even if it's only for a couple of days.  Of course I saw the monuments and visited a Smithsonian or two but those places off the beaten path are my favorites.  They're hard to forget, especially from your palette.

The weather in DC was pleasantly unpredictable so I opted for layers.  Layering up is always the way to go when you aren't sure if the weather is going to heat up or cool down.  I've a newfound love for throwing a beautiful scarf over my shoulder.  I must say that it's become one of my signature looks.  Everyone always asks me "Chelly, how does it stay on?  It never falls off." - My scarf and I are one.

Brunch was on the rooftop of the beautifully chic Ambar Restaurant in the heart of DC.  Everything was beautiful, uniquely arranged and gave the sense of an open, airy garden house.  The cold concrete coupled with the fresh greenery and warm lighting was the perfect balance for any brunch goer looking to drink, eat, and talk way too much.

Oh!...did I mention the unlimited Mimosas??  I really enjoyed the Ambar Mimosa as well as the Cherry Mimosa (pictured above).

You'll find that many east coasters love brunching - it's part of the culture. Many of your local and even chain restaurants on the east coast have some type of all you can eat, bottomless brunch menu.  Those who have partied too hard the night before can stumble into a brunch spot on just about any corner to cure their hangover.

Potato Hash

Flank Steak and Eggs

The food was a delicious selection of traditional Balkan cuisine.  Since it was unlimited, they were small plates but we certainly got our fill.  I tried just about any and everything.  EVERYTHING, and I do mean everything, far exceeded my expectations as well as my taste buds.  When you go, I suggest having the entire table do the Balkan Experience.  You won't be disappointed!!

DC sure did aim to please and please it did!!  I'll be going back very soon!

XO,

Chelly O
